LATE Orders

Order  your 8th grade Shirt  via Imagemarket by June 3rd.  They will be mailed home by the company.  At least 12 shirts must be sold in to process order.

8th Grade Formal Rules

• Formal is for 8th grade Irving students ONLY. 

• Students must arrive with admission wristband by 4:45pm. No ins and outs. Students leaving early must call home and have us speak to parent/guardian. 

• Students must arrive prior to 4:45pm or they will not be admitted to the dance (unless accompanied by parent) 

• Event includes dinner. Dinner will be served from 4:30pm-5:30pm.

• Students must be clear of any pending disciplinary issues.

• Students must have a parent/guardian schedule to pick them up after the dance. NO student will be allowed to walk home, due to safety concerns and regulations. Please plan accordingly. 

• We reserve the right to refuse ticket sales to any student who is not following the Irving Discipline Policy.

 

8th Grade Formal Dress Code

Girls Dress Code

• Dresses or dress slacks should be of an appropriate style for a formal school function.

• Short dresses should not be above 5 inches from middle of the knee. 

• Halter dresses and strapless dresses are not permitted for these formal dances.

• Low cut dresses (front or back), backless or laced-up dresses (dresses must have solid material from the shoulder blade down), or dresses with high slits (above 5 inches from middle of knee) will not be allowed. Dresses which are tight or too form fitting will not be allowed.

• Dresses of a transparent material are not acceptable.

• Shoes should be acceptable for dancing; we do not want students taking their shoes off and getting hurt on the dance floor.

Boys Dress Code

• Boys are to wear dress slacks or dark jeans, collared shirts, ties (optional) and appropriate shoes (not sandals) to the dance. Sport coats or suits are not necessary.

• No shorts, sagging pants or collarless shirts will be allowed.

• Students will not be allowed to enter the dance if they are dressed inappropriately.

Good evening 8th grade parents,

 

As we get closer to culmination, we will be sending out weekly Connect ed messages each Monday. Please listen to messages in its entirety.  Or visit the Irving website for class of 2023 updates.

 

Yearbook

Pre-Order your Yearbook via Treering by April 21st. Yearbook will include pictures of all students and staff, as well as the many events at Irving.If you order by April 21st, you will be able to customize pages for your child.  We will not be ordering extra books. Visit our website. Time is running out for your customized pages. 

 

Six Flags

Six Flags magic mountain tickets are now on sale at the student store. Students can check the eligibility list in front of room 112. We will only have a few tickets left. Get yours today! Six flags grad night Friday, May 26, 2023

 

Field trip

Ms. Lloyd has organized wonderful field trip  fro all 8th graders to the la brea tarpits. The field trip is free and will take place Saturday, May 6th.. This is an optional trip. If your child is interested, please have them pick up a trip slips from Ms. Lloyd. Trip slips are due to Ms. Lloyd by THIS FRIDAY, April 21. There are extra forms outside room 401 for anyone who needs them. For more information, see Ms. Lloyd.

 

8th

The 8th grade formal will take place Friday, May 5th from 4pm to 6pm. It's an evening of fun and gala. Tickets to the dance will be free but students  must be eligible to culminate and have followed the Irving 5xP’s. More information will be shared next week on ticket distribution and running for 8th grade formal King, queen, prince and princess.  

 

And finally, Class of 2023 culmination will take place June 10th at 8:30am. More information will be shared in the upcoming weeks.

PARENT LETTER REGARDING MIDDLE SCHOOL CULMINATION
AND CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION POLICY

Dear Parent/Guardian: 

LAUSD has adopted a Middle School Culmination Activity and Certificate of Completion policy. This policy defines the criteria for issuing a Middle School Certificate of Completion and for students to participate in the Middle School Culmination Activity. It supports student achievement and guides students in preparing for matriculation from middle school to high school. 

Los Angeles Unified School District and Irving STEAM Magnet requires that a student meet the following criteria to earn a Certificate of Completion and to be eligible to participate in 8th grade activities and Culmination: 

•    Students must earn 5 credits for passing each semester course with a ‘D’ or better. Grades from all subject areas will be used to determine credits earned in eighth grade. 

•    Students must earn 67 credits to be eligible for the Certificate of Completion. 

•    Students may not have more than TWO (2) U’s in Cooperation and/or No more than TWO (2) U’s in Work Habits. 

•    Participation in State testing including but not limited to SBAC or ACC and ELPAC as appropriate

•    No more than eight (8) unexcused absences. 

•    Returned and/or cleared all textbook debts, library books and/or any other debts. *If you do not pay your debt, you will not receive your culmination certificate.

•    In the event of frequent or serious violations of school regulations/discipline policy, administration reserves the right to withhold a student from participating in the culmination ceremony. 

•    IMPORTANT NOTE: If a student has Failed in the first semester, it is still possible to participate in the Culmination Ceremony if you make an honest effort to improve these marks in the 2nd semester.

Students will discuss this policy during the Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) conferences. We will work closely with you and your child to promote academic achievement. Failure to meet these requirements will result in an automatic review process to consider extenuating circumstances as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic and possible participation in Culmination.

CARTA A PADRES DE FAMILIA SOBRE LAS NORMAS DE GRDUACION DE LA ESCUELA INTERMEDIA Y EL CERTIFICADO DE CULMINACION DE ESTUDIOS

Estimados padres de familia/tutores legales: 

LAUSD ha adoptado normas de Actividad de Graduación de Escuela Intermedia y Certificado de Culminación de Estudios. Estas normas definen los criterios para otorgar un Certificado de Terminación de Estudios de la Intermedia y para que los alumnos puedan participar en la Actividad de Graduación de la Escuela Intermedia. Dichas normas apoyan el aprovechamiento académico y guían a los alumnos al prepararlos para la transición de la preparatoria. 

El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Los Ángeles y la escuela Irving STEAM Magnet requieren que los estudiantes cumplan las siguientes normas para obtener un Certificado de Culminación y para ser elegible para participar en las funciones del octavo grado incluyendo Grad Night, Baile Formal del Octavo grado, eventos escolares y la ceremonia de culminación:  

* Los estudiantes deben obtener 5 créditos para cada curso semestral con una calificación de 'D' o mejor. Las calificaciones de todas las materias se usarán para determinar los créditos obtenidos en el octavo grado.  

* Los estudiantes deben obtener 67 créditos para ser elegibles para el Certificado de culminación.  

* Los estudiantes no pueden tener más de DOS (2) U en Cooperación y / o No más de DOS (2) U en Hábitos de Trabajo.  

* No más de ocho (8) ausencias injustificadas.  

* Devolver y / o eliminar todas las deudas de libros de texto, libros de la biblioteca y / o cualquier otra deuda. *Si no paga su deuda, no recibirá su certificado de culminación.  

* En caso de violaciones graves o frecuentes de nuestras normas escolares y/o disciplina, administración se reserva el derecho de impedir que un alumno participe en la ceremonia de culminación o reciba su certificado de culminación.  

* NOTA IMPORTANTE: Si un estudiante tiene demasiadas U en el primer semestre, aún es posible participar en la Ceremonia de Culminación si hace un esfuerzo honesto para mejorar estas calificaciones en el 2º semestre.  

Los estudiantes discutirán estas reglas durante las conferencias del Plan de Graduación Individual (IGP). Trabajaremos con usted y su hijo/a para promover el logro académico de su hijo/a.  Si tiene preguntas sobre las normas or reglas de actividad de culminación y el certificado de finalización, comuníquese con el consejero de su hijo/a, el Sr. Lozano o Sr. Barajas, llamando al 323-259-3701.
